Computing
At Sandown School, we have high expectations for our pupils in all subjects and areas of the curriculum, and computing is no exception. Technology surrounds us and is becoming an increasingly more integral part of our day to day lives.
At Sandown, we encourage children to enjoy and value technology, whilst feeling confident in how to use it as safe and proficient users. They become confident with using a range of technology for a range of purposes. They become confident and critical problem solvers. They become confident learners and individuals. We believe that our curriculum embeds the confidence, understanding and skills required for future development in their next stages of education and beyond. Our curriculum is under regular review, including through pupil and staff feedback to ensure that we offer the best computing curriculum that we can for our school.

Animation
Animation
Animation at Sandown School
Animation enables students to explore their creativity while learning valuable skills. Our animation classes focus on the concept of "stop-go" animation, using videos and LEGO to bring their imaginations to life.
Through our animation program, children will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of storytelling, character development, and visual communication.
At Sandown School, we believe that animation not only entertains but also stimulates critical thinking and nurtures imagination.
Year 4 really enjoyed their animation unit. The children were very creative using the stop motion software to create fantastic animations - well done everyone!

Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day
We spent the day exploring technology, both old and new, discussing how technology design can influence peoples choices.
We spoke about how games or app companies use persuasive design to change and influence our thoughts and behaviours.
There was great discussion by all. From this, we discussed how we can avoid these persuasive techniques and how we can stay safe online.
We spoke about how to stay safe and what to do when things go wrong. We looked at how technology has changed and how we can safely use it.
We learned about artificial intelligence and the positives and negatives. We then debated whether or not AI is a friend or a foe.
Year R got involved too by listening to Chicken Clicking
They discussed how important it is to not tell anyone online their age and name, and to never go and meet anyone they do not know. As in the story the chicken believes she is going to meet another chick, but it is actually Mr Fox pretending to be a chicken.
